Monologue Reflection
When I found out each person in the class had to write and perform their own monologue and present it to the class, I began to get nervous. There's many differences between acting out something someone else wrote and then acting out something you wrote. I believe it's vulnerability. If something doesn't sound write as you're putting on a show, blame the play write. But if it's something original and something goes wrong, defense mode shoots out, as well as embarrassment.
I didn't have that much of a hard time coming up with a topic; first two bad starts before the third became the winner. It was fun being able to share my work with someone completely out of the state, and knowing that someone somewhere besides immediate friends and family actually like to read my pieces. Everything was going along smoothly until it was announced we had to perform those itsy bitsy parts of it to show to the class. That was pretty nerve racking to me. But everything turned out perfectly fine and actually better than expected.
And for the finished project, I was very happy to know we didn't have to perform in front of the entire class - that only a few other people had to see it. Which made things a lot easier to handle and made my performance better.
All in all, I really enjoyed the project. It was fun seeing what other people came up with. It was nice to know that I'm able to write and perform a successful monologue.
